Recently I had been out looking for a nice new phone case after dropping my phone and having the screen shatter, getting it fixed, then dropping it the next day and it shattering again! Time for a new case. I enquired at various shops trying to find cases that weren’t made of plastic but this proved to be pretty much impossible. Briody, our amazing sales rep at EB told me about an awesome company called Pela Cases based in Canada who produce phone cases that are plant based and 100% back yard compostable!!! LOVE IT… I’m in!
More than 800 kgs of plastic are used to manufacture in excess of one billion-plus plastic phone cases every year. The average phone case lasts less than two years before it is thrown away, and because of the type of plastic they are made from they are mostly not recyclable.
Pela Case are 100% compostable made out of plant-based biopolymer, recycled materials and flax straw fibre, a waste byproduct of the oilseed harvest. They are BPA-free and contains no lead, cadmium or phthalates.
Not only can you put them in your household compost they are actually good for the soil as well. They take between around 3-6 months but up to 3 years depending on your soil and your compost. If you don’t have a composting system you could just dig them in the dirt!!! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!!!
And they are a certified B corp and give 1% back to the planet and to date have donated over $140,000 just last year to clean water organisations.
I loved everything that I read so much that I arranged for Earth Bottles to be a stockist and we are officially the first stockist of Pela Cases in Australia!
